Care of your Pastel Portrait

Pastel pigments are highly durable and should not fade, however, care must be taken to ensure that the picture is not overly handled. Although the painting has been “fixed” (sprayed with alcohol) - over time - rough handling will result in the pigment detaching from the paper (visible as dust).

You should minimise this risk by ensuring that the painting is mounted and framed under glass to protect it, and always handled with care.

Care of your Pencil/Charcoal Portrait

Pencil/charcoal is quite durable, and has been “fixed” to prevent smudging. It requires no special care, although you should avoid displaying the picture where it may be exposed to strong sunlight.

You should protect your portrait by ensuring that the drawing is mounted and framed under glass.

Care of your Watercolour Portrait

Despite the use of the finest materials available, and recent advances in pigment technology, watercolour still remains susceptible to fading.

You should minimise this risk by ensuring that the painting is mounted and framed under glass to protect it from atmospheric pollution, and avoid displaying the picture where it may be exposed to strong sunlight.
