Questions about drawing and painting
If my photographs are fuzzy or small, can you use "artistic licence" to make-up the missing detail?
No, I cannot reproduce the detail of a face I cannot adequately observe.
Can you change the person's hair or clothing?
Yes - if you can provide supplementary photographs that show details of a different hair style or type of clothing.
Can you combine subjects form different photographs into one image?
Only if the photographs are taken from similar perspectives and lighting conditions.
Do you undertake nudes?
Yes - so long as the image is not pornographic or hateful.
Can I ask you to make changes to the finished drawing/painting if there is some detail that I feel is not quite right?
I am willing to undertake very minor rework. The scope for corrections is always limited, as dry media work is 'fixed' during the drawing/painting process (i.e. sprayed with alcohol to prevent smudging, and allow further build-up of colours). Watercolour can only be erased with limited success (dependant on the colour of the pigment to be removed). I always work on a picture until I think I've got it right - for as long as that may take. When you see the finished picture, it will have been completed to the best of my ability.
Questions about prices
Do you charge extra for drawings/paintings of more than one person?
No - the guide prices quoted on the pages of this site are generally only exceeded if radical changes to the image are required, which necessitate preliminary sketches.
Do you charge extra for detailed backgrounds?
Yes - a further 50% in addition to detailed prices; complex backgrounds can take longer to complete than the main subject.
Questions about payment
What forms of payment do you accept?
I can accept payment from UK customers by personal cheque, plus major credit/debit cards via Pay Pal. For overseas customers I can accept payment via Pay Pal (in either UK £s, US Dollars, or Euros) or International Money Orders in UK £s.
Can you quote me a price in a currency other than UK sterling?
Yes - just tell me what country you live in.
Questions about sending artwork
How do you send artwork; do you use tubes?
I never use tubes. Original artwork is normally provided in a computer-cut mount (for UK clients only), and flat-packed in a sandwich of 5 to 6 sheets of recycled cardboard.
Do you charge extra for UK postage and packing?
UK postage and packing are free. Artwork measuring less than 35" (height + width) when packed is sent by Next Day Special Delivery, and insured against loss or damage. Larger pictures will be sent via an alternative service.
Do you charge extra for overseas shipping?
Overseas shipping is free provided that packed artwork measures less than 35" (height + width). Pictures are sent via International Airmail and insured against loss or damage. If you live overseas, let me know and I will give you a quote for shipping costs at the outset of your enquiry if your artwork size is greater than A3.
