Suitable students
Tuition is offered to students who wish to learn to paint or draw figure based subjects in a style similar to my own. I am not - for example - interested in teaching landscapes in acrylics and an impressionist style.
Location
Lessons will be conducted face-to-face in my home, and must be during daylight hours. I live close to the Tyne Tunnel entrance: easy to find, no car parking problems, and near to a Metro station. I'm happy to provide you with as much tea or coffee as you can drink.
Smokers are welcome, although tuition will be undertaken in a smoke-free environment. Sorry, but anyone afraid of dogs cannot be accommodated. I can provide tuition in your own home for an additional fee that covers travelling time and expenses.
Children must be accompanied by a responsible adult, have a genuine desire to learn to paint or draw, and demonstrate some ability.
I am very patient, even tempered, and generally amiable!
Fees
Lesson fees are £20 per hour. A lesson duration of 2 hours is recommended for watercolour painting. Students may take as many (or few) lessons as they wish, and at a frequency of their choosing. I do not envisage any student requiring more than ten lessons.
Materials and equipment will be provided for lessons, but students will be expected to purchase their own equipment and materials for home use.
Lesson Plan
Technique will be taught through the completion of a "complex" painting or drawing, which will take a number of sessions to finish.
We will work on this picture together during a lesson, and the student will be encouraged to produce a second version at home, on their own, and in the time between lessons.
I believe that technique is better learned "on the job", rather than through the study of theory in isolation. The absence of a fixed lesson plan further allows tuition to be tailored more closely to the needs of the student. I will not waste time teaching you anything you already know.
